Restorative Poses
Yoga Practices for Mindfulness and Restorative Poses
Mindfulness and Yoga
Mindfulness is the practice of being present in the moment, aware of your thoughts, feelings, and surroundings without judgment. Incorporating mindfulness into your yoga practice can deepen your mind-body connection and enhance the overall experience.
1. Mindful Breathing
Focus on your breath as you move through each yoga pose. Notice the sensation of the air moving in and out of your body. This can help calm the mind and bring a sense of awareness to the present moment.
2. Body Scan Meditation
Before or after your yoga practice, take a few moments to do a body scan meditation. Close your eyes and bring your attention to each part of your body, starting from your toes all the way up to the top of your head. Notice any areas of tension or relaxation without trying to change them.
Restorative Yoga Poses
Restorative yoga focuses on relaxation and rejuvenation. These poses are often held for longer periods, allowing the body to release tension and stress. Incorporate these restorative poses into your practice for a sense of calm and restoration.
1. Child's Pose (Balasana)
Begin in a kneeling position, then slowly lower your torso down towards the floor with your arms extended or relaxed by your sides. Rest your forehead on the mat and breathe deeply, allowing your body to relax and release tension in the back and shoulders.

2. Legs Up the Wall (Viparita Karani)
Lie on your back with your legs extended up against a wall. This gentle inversion helps to improve circulation, relieve tired legs, and promote relaxation. Close your eyes, focus on your breath, and allow your body to surrender to the pose.

3. Supported Bridge Pose
Place a yoga block or bolster under your sacrum while lying on your back with your knees bent. Allow your hips to be supported by the prop, feeling a gentle opening in the chest and shoulders. Stay in this pose for a few minutes, focusing on deep breathing and relaxation.

By incorporating mindfulness practices and restorative poses into your yoga routine, you can cultivate a sense of peace, balance, and relaxation in both body and mind. Remember to listen to your body and honor its needs during your practice.
